Designs on IT

After enjoying significant growth in just three years of trading, this dynamic firm of architects decided it was time to move into bigger offices. This expansion called for an increase in investment on technology which included purchasing new equipment, printers and faxes.

The Challenge

Our brief was to assist in the procurement process – complete system design, purchase of software, hardware and hardware peripherals, install a new Server with Microsoft Small Business Server (with Exchange), configure and network PCs etc and provide training where necessary. We were also tasked with providing ongoing managed IT services.

The Solution

Steve Palmer, Technical Services Director, Supreme Systems says, “We began by sending surveys to individual departments to determine their processes, individual problem areas, restrictions and aspects of their day to day which they were happy with. This was to give us an insight into current and future “pain” areas that we would have to address. It also allowed us to come up with a blueprint of products and services which we could recommend to the partners that would help steamline and boost their business process”.

“Once this process was completed, we could then document the existing environment, to get to grips with what the current processes already in place were in order to successfully replicate this at the new site, comments Angela Hart, Client Services Manager, Supreme Systems. Once that was done it was simply a matter of installing the new network”.

For this client we were able to:

1. Introduce Microsoft Windows XP – this was the operating system of choice as it worked well with a suite of new software the company had recently purchased.

2. Introduce Office 2007

3. Set up Microsoft SBS Server plus Exchange

4. Network PCs & Printers

5. Create a training programme for Office 2007

Says Steve Palmer, “as part of our Systems Design service we also provide a hotline for the first 14 days of implementation to address any issues that could arise as a result of the new installation – this always comes straight to me because we understand how stressful moving to a new process can be. We provided a complete hand-holding service throughout the implementation ensuring that our clients were confident that we could successfully setup their environment with little or no down time – which we did, very successfully!”.
